Meet the Artist: Sandra Gale

Sandra Gale creates bold, bright portraits and still lifes that celebrate women with warmth, humour, and unapologetic colour. Her work is made for people who are done blending in — art that brings a hit of joy, confidence, and “fun is enough” energy into everyday spaces.

With a background in Visual Communication (graduating in 2006), Sandra spent 14 years as an in-house illustrator for one of Australia’s leading gift brands. In 2020, she began experimenting again — candles, cards, portraits, tees — and what started as “just for fun” quickly grew into Sandra Gale Studio, fuelled by a fast-growing community.

Her process begins with large sheets of painted paper, built up in layers of texture and colour. Sandra cuts and reassembles these pieces like a joyful, chaotic jigsaw puzzle — a collage technique she fell in love with during her illustration studies at UniSA. She combines traditional collage with digital elements, acrylic paint, and uplifting affirmations, creating artworks that feel playful, heartfelt, and full of story.

Today, Sandra’s work spans original artworks and collectable products, and can be found at national art fairs, in stores across Australia and New Zealand, and in homes from Adelaide to Queensland and beyond.
